The Philippines need our sympathy and support

SEIU members across the nation are uniting to support relief efforts to aid Filipinos suffering from the destruction of Typhoon Haiyan.  We extend our sympathies to the hundreds of thousands who lost loved ones and we’re mobilizing to support survivors who need immediate access to clean water, food, and medical supplies.  Read the statement from our International President Mary Kay Henry about the Typhoon.

SEIU has a fundraising goal of $1 million to support efforts to rebuild in the Philippines.  Already, we are halfway there.  The nurses and healthcare workers who make up our SEIU Healthcare 1199NW Executive Board voted to donate $10,000 toward relief efforts.  As more local unions contribute, we can take on projects like rebuilding healthcare facilities or community centers.

Empact Northwest

EMPACT Northwest is a charitable organization comprised of medical professionals providing disaster relief, medical education and ongoing medical aid to communities in need.  They have sent teams of medical professionals to provide on-the-ground support in the Philippines and are bringing clean water and medical supplies to areas in need.

Active Citizenship Foundation, Inc.
ACF’s main focus is to assist marginalized communities and sectors in the Philippines, especially the poorest of the poor, through promoting popular participation, ensuring peaceful and democratic politics, empowering local communities, youth outreach, mobilizing women, responding to urgent community needs, and building a green future.

Feed The Hungry
Feed The Hungry’s mission is to uplift the spirit and well-being of the poorest of the poor, the abused and the desolate through feeding, community and economic development, gift giving, educational scholarships and classroom building, and calamity relief and emergency medical assistance programs.

Bulig Tacloban (Help Tacloban)
A non-profit, non-political alliance of “Taclobanons” (locals from the hard-hit areas) who aim to provide relief and goods distribution in hard-to-reach communities.

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) works in more than 190 countries and territories to save and improve children’s lives by providing health care and immunizations, clean water and sanitation, nutrition, education, emergency relief and more.
