Hundreds of healthcare workers from Kaiser Permanente Washington gathered alongside their families, neighbors, supporters, and local elected officials outside the hospital for an exciting union rally on July 26. The action aimed to highlight the short-staffing crisis, its impact on patients and caregivers, and the solutions proposed by the union bargaining team at the bargaining table. Families, kids, and a food truck added to the atmosphere of unity and solidarity, while a lineup of speakers echoed the workers’ demands for better wages, recruitment and retention, and quality patient care.
The enthusiasm of the event extended beyond Seattle, with simultaneous actions taking place locally in Bellevue, Tacoma and Spokane on July 27, and national actions and pickets at Kaiser Permanente facilities in California, Oregon, and Colorado.
This show of unity demonstrated the workers’ commitment to helping Kaiser Permanente become once again a leader in healthcare in Washington state. As negotiations continue, their voices remain strong and unwavering.
