Governor Gregoire signs Working Families Tax Credit into Law
By signing the Working Families Tax Credit (ESSB 6809), Washington State Governor, Christine Gregoire puts into law a new policy which when fully funded will give an additional tax rebate to nearly 350,000 families across the state.
The 2008 Supplemental budget invests $1.25 million dollars to set up the program. In next year's budget, the Legislature will need to appropriate the funding to provide refund checks to families.
"While we have made a modest investment this year to set up the program, the Working Families Credit is a bold step toward a more equitable tax structure," said Senator Lisa Brown (D-Spokane), the Senate Majority Leader. “We can only build on this important foundation by providing the funding to give a tax break to those who need it the most.”
